The Science

Why stone dries
faster than anything else

Diatomaceous earth is a naturally occurring sedimentary rock — the fossilized remains of microscopic algae. For thousands of years humans have used it. We brought it to your kitchen.

How It Works

Four steps to
a permanently dry counter

Understanding the science behind your Kepiy mat — and why no cloth or silicone mat can compete.

1
Water Meets Stone
The moment a wet dish touches the Kepiy mat, millions of microscopic pores in the diatomaceous earth begin drawing moisture inward through natural capillary action.
2
Instant Absorption
Within seconds, water is pulled deep into the stone matrix — up to 150% of the mat's own weight. The surface feels completely dry almost immediately after contact.
3
Rapid Evaporation
The same microscopic pores that absorb water also release it as vapor into the air. Within 30–60 minutes, your Kepiy mat is completely dry and fully ready for the next load.
4
No Mold. Ever.
Rapid drying means mold and bacteria never get established. Unlike cloth that stays damp for hours, Kepiy's stone surface stays hygienic between every use, automatically.

The Comparison

Kepiy vs. the alternatives

Cloth Mat
  • Stays wet for hours after use
  • Grows mold and bacteria rapidly
  • Develops musty smell within days
  • Requires frequent washing
  • Wears out within months
  • Inexpensive upfront cost
Kepiy Stone Mat
Kepiy Diatomaceous Earth
  • Absorbs instantly, dries in <60 seconds
  • Naturally antimicrobial — no mold ever
  • Zero odor — always fresh
  • Minimal maintenance — just rinse
  • Lasts 3+ years with proper care
  • 100% natural, non-toxic, BPA-free
Silicone Mat
  • Doesn't absorb — just redirects water
  • Water pools underneath dishes
  • Requires drying dishes yourself
  • Can harbor bacteria in grooves
  • Durable construction
  • Easy to rinse
FAQ

Common questions

How do I clean my Kepiy mat?+
Rinse with clean water and stand upright to air-dry. For surface residue or light staining, use the included fine-grit sandpaper to gently buff the surface in a well-ventilated area, then rinse again. For stubborn stains, a diluted bleach solution works well. Do not place in the dishwasher.
Can the mat crack or break?+
Diatomaceous earth is a stone material, so it can crack if dropped on a hard floor from height. Handle with care when moving. Under normal kitchen use — placing dishes, cleaning, and storing — the mat is very durable and lasts for years.
What if the mat stops absorbing as well?+
If absorption seems reduced, the surface pores may have collected soap residue or mineral deposits. Simply sand the surface lightly with fine-grit sandpaper, rinse thoroughly, and allow to dry completely. This restores full absorption performance.
Is it safe for food contact surfaces?+
Yes. Kepiy mats are made from food-grade diatomaceous earth and food-safe silicone components. They are non-toxic, BPA-free, and safe for use in food-contact environments including kitchen counters, utensil storage, and fruit/vegetable drying.
How long does the mat take to dry itself?+
Under normal conditions with good ventilation, a Kepiy mat returns to its original light color (indicating full dryness) within 30–60 minutes of heavy use. In high humidity environments, allow up to 2 hours. You can speed up drying by standing the mat upright against a wall.
